The islands would be built from dredge material from the Illinois River. Both islands would restore the Riverfront to a more natural setting, with wetland and ecosystem restoration. One island would have a bikeway and trail access, the other would not have access and be dedicated to bird nesting areas. These plans area conceptual, and the design refined.
